McCarthy raves about Carrey's interest in her son, Evan, and his struggles with autism. Now age 6, Evan goes to a regular school in Los Angeles and McCarthy credits diet, vitamins and "cleansing his system from the toxins caused by the vaccinations" as being key to his improvement. Evan calls Carrey "Daddy Jim," and McCarthy says he's more involved in the boy's life than Evan's father, director and actor John Asher, who split with McCarthy in 2005.
*While we were chatting, Carrey called McCarthy's cell phone, checking in from the set of ''I Love You Phillip Morris," playing a guy in a gay relationship with both former ''Lost'' actor Rodrigo Santoro and Ewan McGregor. ... According to the Mother McAuley High School grad, in real life, her relationship with Carrey ''couldn't be better," but they don't plan to wed. "Things are fine just as they are.''

The truth is some men....
are just workaholics and would rather be working than in a family relationship. It could be for many reasons, perhaps a father had the same example, maybe he's running away from a relationship, maybe it's too complicated for some.
I applaud Jim for just caring, period. He doesn't have to, but he does.
At least he doesn't call him "Big Daddy"
