It was really nervewracking....all the other contestants were GREAT, though. It was nice to meet and talk to them at the hotel.
It's just that they walk you into the studio just as Johnny Gilbert is announcing "13 million people a day watch Jeopardy".
Truly...you're thinking "Oh @$#^ that's a LOT of people. "Then your family is sitting in the section they take you to, but you're not allowed to talk to them. So you wave. I was fortunate to meet second cousins I'd never met.
After it was over that day I said, "I'll bet you guys have been to these things a hundred times"....they live in Ventura. My uncle said, "This was totally different, we never had a family member who was a contestant."
That weekend before I had had to work. And one of those morning driving into work, Josh Groban came on the radio and I love his voice , I'll bet this is a good Jeopardy question, I thought.
Halfway through the first show, I was living up to blonde expectations and then there was a question with a picture...they had Josh Groban up there.
Bernie, the guy next to me, rung in first... I was peeved. Then Bernie said "Josh Grodin."
And from that moment I had such a feeling of ease and "rightness" as I rang in and said, "Josh Groban."
They definitely study for those shows. My theory is that they give them so many potential topics, but don't tell them which ones will actually be chosen
