I wonder howecome, Sundance is already over for a while ... I checked two days ago and is was 7.6. Now it's suddenly 8, that's a big difference in such a short time ... was the movie showing somewhere?

I guess people are still rating it daily I guess, not sure. But it got up to a 8 fast because there isn't many ratings, around 130 or so. So a user giving it a 10 will bring it up quite a bit.

It'd be awesome if it could stay over an 8 at imdb tho, would be his 2nd movie to reach that score. But I figure it'll go down when it gets more ratings.

Thanks to the side-event in Cannes '09, there are three new reviews for 'Phillip Morris'. All positive in the end. And in a way those comments tell what I'm expecting from the movie. Not the fact that they are positive or negative, but whát they are telling.
"Funny, sometimes tender and ultimately unsettling black comedy."
,- Times (UK)
"Story and style are all over the place, rendering it somewhat inaccessible. Admittedly, the whole film is in a bit of an aesthetic dither, which will confound many viewers."
,- Hollywood Reporter
"Less of a comedy than a hilarious tragedy."
,- Variety

:) It´s Great! I love non totally conventional films. Maybe we will finnaly talk about Oscar time for Jim? Maybe original screenplay and his first nod? We will see! But I´m definitely waiting for this film above the others. ;)

I don't think this is Oscar-material, but I do think it's an indie-comedy that will enjoy a positive vibe.

However, today I saw the first European (Belgian) critic saying one short thing about 'Phillip Morris'.
"And there were more laughs at Cannes. By example 'I Love You, Phillip Morris', a comedy where Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor fall in love with eichother. It's entertaining, that for sure. But it's not that unusual, new or shocking as the directors seem to think, in fact it's not, not at all."
I guess the fuzz about this movie is way overrated, again. So typical for America, pussies! :P (just kiddin')

The guys from TotalFilm are in Cannes and saw 'Phillip Morris', they did a video-review, well, kinda. It's positive and fun.

Review Clip

And there are more reviews (all going from simply 'good' to 'realy good') but I'm gonna stop reading them now. I think I already know how it ends and what the actual set-up is ... so I'll try to forget that now.

I'll blame the script if the movie turns out bad... not bad acting or directing. :D

Here in Belgium (in fact, whole Europe) there's a weird thing going on. Seems that 'Philip Morris' is loved a lot ánd hated a lot at the same time. Some magazines and papers speak of "The best Jim Carrey movie since 'Eternal Sunshine', pure joy." and others sound like "Already the worst movie of the year, unbelievable, thát bad!" Same thing is going on at forums and blogs.

I'm realy curious what I will think about it. Gonna see it this weekend or the week after.
