I'm sure the reason why the China storyline was scrapped is because filming there might be too expensive, and it's why the project was delayed again and again!
Still, I'm excited the film is finally moving forward! Let's get this thing off the ground already!

Ripley's life and death is quite interesting....
there is definitely a story there.
Could Jim look 58, that's the age Ripley died at.
And Robert isn't the name he was born with.
He sailed but didn't swim a stroke
If Ripley were alive today, what would he write about?
Maybe about the Hobbit creature that was found that David Suzuki talked about recently, maybe that would be a story or
anyone else have any good stories?

Good news: The film is still alive, and with Jim on it. Columbus is Ok.
Bad news: If the film is going to be a franchise, tha main role will not die on the film, and it will not be a biopic all the way so my hopes for Jim nominated for the oscar with this movie will be reduced in 50%, and the quality of a one masterpiece movie will be reduced too... No china I think no Gong Li so.
I hope it not to be a franchise. As an individual film and with that amazing main role with that tragic end it´s more oscar gold I think...

i am happy that Burton's off the project now ......his style hasn't changed in years and it would have ended up 'Sweeny Ripley's in the Nightmare before Beetlejuice'....
.....as long as they don't cheapen the whole project with the franchise 'money maker' ideology......... but alas, i fear they might...

I wouldn't say that about Burton. Yes, I'm a bit sick of the combination Depp (with funny hair) and Burton, but beside that, they do make good movies. (one better then the other) But the looks and style of his 'Wonka' or 'Sweeney' are different enough, imo. Also, the tone of his movies are (mostly) different. But I understand your feeling ... when I saw 'Sweeney' I had the feeling I saw it all before.
When I first saw the trailer for 'Big Fish' a long, long time ago, the first thing that came in my head (I remember that) was the fact that Jim Carrey was absolutely perfect for the role. (I thought McGregror wasn't right for that one) So 'Ripley' with Carrey and Burton could have been something special. I think. Now, with the new man in, it's nothing to be exited about.
