71st Annual Academy Awards nominations announced
08 Feb 1999 February 9 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences unveiled the nominees for the 71st Annual Academy Awards at 5:30 am PST.
"The Truman Show" garnered nominations in three of the major categories. Peter Weir is nominated for Best Director, Andrew Niccol for Best Original Screenplay, and Ed Harris finishes out the nominees for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
Surprisingly absent from the list of nominees is Jim Carrey, highly critically acclaimed, and recent Golden Globe winner for Best Actor in a Dramatic Motion picture for his role as Truman Burbank in "The Truman Show."
The Academy Awards will air on a Sunday this year, thirty minutes earlier, on March 21 from the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion.
