Sonic 3 Races Past Massive Global Box Office Milestone
19 Jan 2025 By Tommy Pihl (Editor-in-Chief)
Against the odds and in the shadow of Disney’s "Mufasa: The Lion King", Paramount’s "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" has sprinted ahead to claim box office glory! Despite the competition, the movie has not only held its own but has consistently out-performed Mufasa domestically. This weekend, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 stayed strong in the domestic top five and hit a huge global milestone.
With $216 million domestically and another $203 million internationally, "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" has crossed an impressive $419 million worldwide. It’s now surpassed Sonic the Hedgehog 2's $405 million lifetime total to become the highest-grossing film in the trilogy — and the fifth-biggest video game adaptation of all time! If it keeps up this pace, it could soon become the second-biggest video game adaptation of all time. Currently, it’s trailing behind Rampage in fourth place ($428 million), Warcraft in third ($439 million), and Pokémon: Detective Pikachu in second ($450 million).
Directed by Jeff Fowler, the Sonic movies have generated a combined total of over $1.1 billion globally, an extraordinary achievement for a franchise that only began in 2020!
